BJ’s Wholesale Club and Costco are each gearing up to grow their warehouse fleets.
BJ’s plans to open between 25 and 30 locations over the next two fiscal years , the retailer announced Thursday. For 2025, Costco plans to open 29 new warehouses, including three relocations, but did not specify how many of those will be in the U.S., according to a regulatory filing.
Three of BJ’s planned stores have already opened — in Brooksville, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Southern Pines, North Carolina. Other upcoming stores for 2025 include two more in Florida as well as locations in Georgia, Tennessee, New Jersey and New York.
BJ’s upcoming stores will vary in formats, per the club retailer’s announcement. The upcoming Delray Beach, Florida, store will be a BJ’s market — the second of the company’s concept clubs, according to the press release. The first BJ’s market opened in Warwick, Rhode Island , in April 2022.
The company also said it will open several Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, clubs and gas stations starting in early 2026. These stores will mark the retailer’s debut in the Lone Star State.
“Economic expansion and a growing population make Texas a great fit for us,” BJ’s Chairman and CEO Bob Eddy said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Costco has committed to opening seven new clubs in the U.S. across five states between March and the end of April, according to the retailer’s website. The upcoming locations include two each in California and Texas and one each in Massachusetts, Florida and Michigan, per the retailer’s website. In addition, Costco is also opening a store in Minami Alps, Japan, and Ardeer, Australia, in April.
Last year, Costco opened 23 new warehouses in the U.S. as well as one in Canada, per the retailer’s annual Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
